Stonebridge Wire is committed to accurate, fair and responsible journalism. We take mistakes and concerns about our editorial content seriously.

If you believe we have published inaccurate information, treated somebody unfairly or fallen below the standards set out in our Editorial Code & Standards, we want to hear from you.

Corrections

Accuracy is fundamental to Stonebridge Wire.

When we become aware of a significant factual error, we will investigate it and, where appropriate, correct the published material as promptly as reasonably possible.

Minor spelling, grammatical, formatting or stylistic changes may be made without a correction notice where they do not materially change the meaning of an article.

Where a correction substantially changes or clarifies the meaning of an article, we will normally consider adding a note explaining what has been corrected.

We will not knowingly leave materially inaccurate information published simply because correcting it may be inconvenient or embarrassing.

Updates to developing stories

News develops.

An article that was accurate when first published may need to be updated as additional information becomes available.

We may update developing stories to include new facts, statements, responses or other relevant information.

Routine additions to a developing story will not necessarily carry a correction notice. However, where an update corrects a significant factual error rather than simply adding new information, we will consider making that distinction clear to readers.

Requesting a correction

If you believe an article contains a factual error, please email:

newsdesk@stonebridgewire.co.uk

Please include, where possible:

  • The headline and URL of the article concerned.
  • The specific statement or information you believe is inaccurate.
  • An explanation of why you believe it is incorrect.
  • The correction you believe should be made.
  • Any documents, links or other evidence supporting your request.
  • Your name and contact details.
  • Your relationship to the subject of the article, where relevant.

Providing clear supporting information will help us assess the issue more quickly.

Right of reply

Stonebridge Wire aims to provide a reasonable opportunity to respond where our reporting contains significant criticism or allegations concerning an identifiable individual or organisation.

Sometimes, particularly during breaking news, it may not be possible to receive a response before publication.

Where we have sought comment but have not received a response by the time an article is published, we may make this clear within the report.

If a relevant response is subsequently received, we will consider whether the article should be updated.

We are not required to reproduce responses in full and may edit material for length, clarity and relevance while taking care not to materially misrepresent its meaning.

Requests concerning a right of reply can be sent to newsdesk@stonebridgewire.co.uk.

Editorial complaints

You may make an editorial complaint if you believe Stonebridge Wire has fallen below the standards set out in our Editorial Code & Standards.

This may include concerns relating to accuracy, fairness, privacy, discrimination, the reporting of children or vulnerable people, crime and court reporting, conflicts of interest, attribution or another aspect of our editorial conduct.

Please send editorial complaints to:

newsdesk@stonebridgewire.co.uk

Use the subject line:

Editorial Complaint – [Article Headline]

Your complaint should clearly identify the material concerned and explain which aspect of the article or our editorial conduct you believe requires review.

What happens after you complain?

We aim to acknowledge substantive editorial complaints within five working days.

We will then review the material complained about, the information available when it was published and any supporting evidence supplied with the complaint.

Where necessary, we may contact you for additional information.

We aim to provide a substantive response within 20 working days of receiving sufficient information to investigate the complaint.

More complicated matters may take longer. If that happens, we will endeavour to keep the complainant informed.

Possible outcomes

Following our review, we may decide that no action is required or that the article should be clarified, updated or corrected.

In more serious circumstances, material may be substantially amended or removed.

Removal of an article will generally be reserved for circumstances where there is a compelling editorial, legal or ethical reason to do so. The fact that an article is inconvenient, embarrassing or no longer favourable to its subject will not ordinarily be sufficient reason for removal.

Where appropriate, we may also offer or publish a response from an individual or organisation affected by our reporting.

Reviews, commentary and opinion

Stonebridge Wire publishes reviews, analysis, commentary and opinion alongside news reporting.

A disagreement with a writer’s genuinely held opinion does not, by itself, establish that our editorial standards have been breached.

However, factual claims appearing within reviews, commentary and opinion remain subject to our standards on accuracy.

For example, someone may disagree with a reviewer’s assessment that a performance was disappointing. That is a matter of opinion. An incorrect statement about when or where the performance took place would be a factual matter that could potentially require correction.

Complaints about headlines and social media

Our editorial standards apply to headlines, captions and Stonebridge Wire’s social media output as well as the body of an article.

If your complaint relates specifically to a headline, photograph, caption or social media post, please identify this clearly when contacting us.

Complaints involving privacy

If you believe Stonebridge Wire has published private or sensitive information that creates an immediate risk of significant harm, please make this clear in the subject line of your email.

Use:

URGENT – Privacy Complaint

We will endeavour to prioritise genuinely urgent privacy and safety concerns.

Marking a routine complaint as urgent will not necessarily result in it being considered more quickly.

Legal correspondence

Formal legal correspondence should be clearly identified as such.

Please use:

LEGAL – Stonebridge Wire

and send it to newsdesk@stonebridgewire.co.uk until a separate legal contact is published.

Receipt of correspondence at this address does not constitute acceptance of service of legal proceedings unless expressly agreed.

Complaints made in good faith

Stonebridge Wire welcomes legitimate criticism of its journalism.

We will not disadvantage someone in future editorial coverage simply because they have made a genuine complaint about our work.

Likewise, complainants are expected to communicate reasonably. Abusive, threatening, deliberately repetitive or clearly vexatious correspondence may not receive continued responses.

Transparency

Corrections are part of responsible journalism.

We would rather acknowledge and correct a genuine mistake than leave inaccurate information in place.

At the same time, Stonebridge Wire will not alter accurate journalism simply because its subject disagrees with it or would prefer that information not be reported.

Our decisions will be guided by accuracy, fairness, the public interest and the principles contained within our Editorial Code & Standards.
